Located at Tanglin Halt Market and Food Centre, Wei Yi Laksa & Prawn Noodle is undoubtedly one of the anchored stalls in this little food centre judging from the long queue in front of the stall and the media coverage.
Wei Yi apparently is more dominant with their laksa from our observation, most of the patrons were requested their laksa though prawn mee is on the menu as well.
We decided to try both the laksa and prawn mee.
The laksa was topped with boiled shredded chicken meat, tau pok and some fish cake, the usual toppings that you can find in any of the laksa. The first mouthful of the laksa gravy was not be able to excite our tastebuds too much, the gravy was too diluted and lack of the nice aroma we were expecting from a bowl of good laksa. The hei bee or dried shrimp and the seasoning were all come with the light touch.
Of course, we have an inclination towards more well seasoned gravy but isn’t that what a good laksa should be? Coming from another view, we can understand perhaps it is the light touch that enthralling to those who like the easy going gravy that may be less cloying and spicy to their palates.
Prawn mee $3
Prawn mee is not their speciality; the dry version was tossed with lard, fried shallot and chili paste. Good prawn mee highly weight on the sauce, the concoction of the sauce can mean a make or break to a bowl of good prawn mee, somehow, the prawn mee here was fairly ordinary and short of the zestfulness that we are looking for. However, the accompanying soup was nicely cooked and we can fully appreciate the sweetness from the seafood.
Overall, Wei Yi Laksa & Prawn Noodle may still fulfilling the palates of most of the tastebuds, however, we would prefer the flavour can be further enhanced so that the overall taste will not be too pale if compared to many others good laksa and prawn mee we have evaluated so far.
