However, among the countless stalls we had tried, only 3 had fulfilled the above requirements under this category. Yam Mee – Teochew Fishball Mee

The mee pok fishball noodle we ordered was quite impressive, Yam mee had the right mix of sauce and chili that blended exceptionally well with the noodle, the sauce and chili were able to bring out the essence of the mee pok and together complemented each other seamlessly.  

The mee pok was cooked to the right texture, not too soggy nor was it undercooked, with the right level of firmness and springy to the palate. The fishballs, meat balls and the rest of the toppings were commendable, portion size of the toppings were generous as well. The accompanying soup was tasty with the appropriate amount of sweetness.

What really touched us was not just the fishballs but the noodles! The fantastic seasoning and the perfectly cooked ingredients. The chilli which was especially impressive, together with the seasoning, blended so well with the noodles and other ingredients that harmonised everything in a bowl that really packed a “tasty” punch.

The stall has a big signboard illustrating the history of the stall. The focus was on their traditional hand made fishballs, they had a trademark odd shape to their fishballs which were made with great texture and nice to the bite and taste, the meat balls are equally flavourful and with the perfect firmness, both are highly commendable. The soup served together with the noodle was equally delectable with the right sweetness and flavour, a great bowl of fishball noodles that was simply divine.

Many go for the fishball noodle with the extra order of a bowl of standard soup served with fishballs, fish dumpling, fish roll and Tao pok stuff with fish paste. The soup base was light milky white in colour, it may look ordinary but the taste was really spectacular. The medley of sweetness and tastefulness was simply divine. The fish dumpling or the fish “her giao”鱼饺was one of the best we even tried so far. We couldn’t find too much of the fault with the noodles, it has the right springiness, not too soggy or too dry, a perfect texture and good seasoning sauce.

Overall, the fantastic soup and the noodle from the ensemble made every mouthful heavenly.

I tried the three that u posted but I found a one even better or can I say the best fishball noodles in Singapore.the location is at lor 29 geylang(星光魚圓面)the old uncle cooking the noodles is real fast at his age and it’s enjoyable to watch him cooking…most importantly the mee Pok is so tasty that I usually ordered two bowls .check it out and u will know.

  4. 321 mee pok kway teow mee at sengkang’s KWEK SENG HUAT EATING HOUSE (previously at siglap center) is not bad. The bak chor soup is shiok without the strong aroma of pork snell associated with some bak chor nee pok store.

Taste is very subjective and hard to conclude if Yam Mee should be one of the best depend on the individual tastebuds, we base on the opinions of at least 3 to 4 of us in the team to draw the conclusion but fully respect your opinion that Yam mee may not be the best.
