TONG FONG FATT Hainanese Chicken Rice 东风发海南鸡饭
The chicken rice stall has a few branches in Singapore, we had tried the one at Bedok South and ABC food centre, and both serve good chicken rice.
The chicken rice was fragrant with each rice grain nicely separated and coated with chicken stock flavour with a taste of sweetness buried into the rice, the rice had the right texture – not too hard or soggy. It was so nice that we ordered second bowl of rice to go with the chicken. The chicken rice reminded us the best chicken rice that we have even eaten in one of the shops in Malacca, Malaysia, not the few recommended by the famous food gurus from Hong Kong or Singapore but a little shop at one corner of the same street. We will share in future if there is a right place on Malaysia food.
The chicken meat came with skin removed and was tender and juicy, the sauce doused over the chicken made the chicken favour fully alive, we were truly impressed the attentive to the details of the stall that even the chili sauce, garlic sauce and the soup were so well done that all the combination created a perfect match for a subtle meal for the day.
We have to agree this is one of the better chicken rice in town and comparable to some of the top guns chicken rice.
However, our recent re-visit found the rice standard degraded significantly, perhaps too many branches and the quality control is somehow compromised.
