Teochew Handmade Pau Pte Ltd 潮洲自制包点有限公司
The milky white miniature pau are lovely and cute, with every little pau being bite sized. If you are thinking of buying the pau to fill your hunger, you will probably need quite a number of the little pau to pacify your growling tummy.
Teochew Handmade Pau offers various pau with different fillings. We ordered the more popular one which includes the Stewed pork kou rou pau扁包 / 扣肉包, roasted pork char siew pau叉烧包, Lotus paste / Lian Rong pau莲蓉包, Red bean paste / Dou Sha pau豆沙包.
What we like about the pau was the thin skin and the fine texture, as well as the fact that it is daily freshly made pau that’s right out from the steamer. The Lotus paste and red bean paste were very fine and smooth, taste wise was above average. However, the roasted pork char siew pau was kind of lacking of the much needed juices and taste, it could have better seasoned and infused more fat from the minced pork. The stewed pork kou rou pau was made from the lean meat and same as the char siew, the kou rou pau was too dry and you can’t taste the fatty belly pork oozing out from the bit which was a pity of the pau. May be it is the intention to prepare the filling in a leaner manner to project a healthier image of the pau.
The siew mai was quite unique which sets it apart from the traditional prawns as one of the key ingredients and replaced by the fish paste, though nothing too special.
By the way, the pau must be eaten while it is hot, the texture hardens relatively fast and lost it softness once left it expose in the open air.
Overall, Teochew Handmade Pau is able to win the loyal patrons for its freshness and the pau skin. And of course, the lovely cutie bites.
