The perfect waffle has to hit the right balance of crispy and chewy. Just crisp enough to provide texture and a shattering under your teeth but yet not too over done that you feel like you’re eating glass shards. It’s innards – oh waffle innards where do I even begin – have to be moist, fluffy with steaming little pores that meld with your choice of iced cream.
At Stranger’s Reunion, you can opt to have Greek yogurt with your waffles. The tart sourness from the yogurt provides a nice offset to the sweetness of the maple syrup one can then so generously drown the waffles in. This waffle was a 8/10 with the last two points taken off because it was just a tad overdone. Otherwise, it hit all the right notes especially in terms of taste with buttermilk elevating it from the ordinary common waffle.
Here’s a tip: always always ask for your ice cream in a separate bowl from the waffle. Otherwise the piping hot waffle will cause your ice cream to melt faster than it should. With too much liquid destroying the integrity of the waffle, you will be hurrying to finish your soggy mess faster than you should.
