sQue – Rotisserie & Alehouse = Beer + Food + Singapore River
We were invited to review sQue – pronounced as ‘skew’ – a rotisserie and alehouse located along the Singapore River. The promenade has seen much evolution, constantly reinventing itself to keep pace with modern Singapore, so the new menu introduced here seemed to be a pretty great opportunity to revisit both the river and the restaurant to see what’s been up lately!
Apart from the popular items that have remained on the a la carte menu, the new menu now boasts over 20 new additions, featuring a revamp of the main courses and a new “bar bites” selection, as well as bigger sharing platters for hungry folks.
sQue serves an array of rotisserie dishes including grilled meat, salads, burgers, pastas and a huge selection of lagers, beers and lambics. We like the abundance of choice here!
Tomato Mozzarella Salad S$18+
This salad served with morsels of mozzarella, cherry tomatoes and arugula was refreshing.
Shrimp and Pomelo Salad S$16+
This Asian-inspired salad was packed with seafood and baked to achieve a nice crisp, the creamy interior contained shrimp and pomelo, that surprisingly went well together and was greatly satisfying.
Tuna steak S$25+
The Tuna was grilled to medium rare perfection – tender and tasty, we simply loved it.
sQue Platter S$98+
The price may seem a little exorbitant, however, the portion was huge enough to feed four to five hungry carnivores. The jamboree of meat includes sQue’s signature rotisserie spring chicken, the new sQue Pork Knuckle, prawn paste chicken wings, pork ribs, smoked spicy chicken sausage, Neurnberger, Bratwurst and Merguesz.
Roasted to a golden crisp with a good fat to lean meat ratio, the knuckle must be eaten hot while it’s still crispy. Salty, crunchy and a little decadent, it’s a hit with its unique taste and texture.
Other notable items include:
– Prawn paste chicken wing, an Asian-inspired delicacy that was interesting to find in this western eatery. Crisp skin infused with paste prawn flavour, yet still juicy within. Not bad indeed.
– Honey mustard spring chicken, a signature dish here, the crisp skin was tender and juicy. Go with the sauce if you need an extra kick.
– The St. Louis Pork Ribs included in the platter was lovely, the meat was well seasoned, fork tender and easily fell off the bone.
Capping off the feast was a creamy Cheesecake and SQue’s famed Tiramisu – good enough to satisfy any sweet tooth.
sQue is definitely a great place for chilling out with friends while enjoying a glass of cold beer with an excellent variety of food – ideal for large groups with finicky taste buds. Set against the backdrop of the vibrant Singapore River, the friendly staff and great service here added up to an all-round pleasant experience.
