There are quite a number of good food stalls in Bukit Timah Market and Food Centre, Sin Chew Satay Bee Hoon and Kang Kong cuttlefish is always one of the rave about stalls that make it to the must try list when visit the food centre.

Talking about satay been hoon, It is inevitable foodies tend to equate the reputable one to those from the food centers in Bedok, Ang Mo Kio,  Redhill and Sin Chew fromthe Bukit Timah food centre. How the individual makes it to the top list? The satay gravy seems to be the main catch.

The satay gravy from the Sin Chew satay bee hoon was creamy and refine. The peanut was finely ground and it was hardly to find any of the peanut bits or chuck trace present in the gravy. Nice? Not sure, the gravy somehow missing the fragrance of the peanut and a mild taste of curry flavor. Mix with curry powder to enhance the taste or spoil the taste? Well, It could be subjective but judging from the perpetual queue, the gravy definitely has its own backers.

The topping of the ingredients was fairly standard with the crunchy kang kong, the Tau Pok (dried beancurd) and two prawns. Cuttlefish was chewy but a tad of ductile, slices of meat were pre-cooked and just added to the plate of bee hoon when served, not a good practice as the meat tend to turn harden when left exposed in the air for a long time with the lost of its moist and juices. The bee hoon was smooth and may be too smooth, could be the brand of the bee hoon but it has a texture more towards the transparent type of vermicelli (Tan Hoon) and when mixed with the satay gravy, it turned out to be more soggy and lumpy.

Overall, sin chew satay bee hoon has its uniqueness in the taste, those prefer the creamier gravy and less pungent in the peanut flavor may please with the dish. In our opinion, it is still the one at Fengshan that able to conquest our taste buds. How about you?
