Saveur Singapore – affordable French cuisine
French cuisine has a reputation for its superior high touch and the corresponding high price it’s command. Saveur – the French restaurant synonymously for cheap French Cuisine is certainly a welcome name for those without a deep pocket.
Do the strategy worked? Well, the crowd at Saveur and the opening of their second branch say it all.
Saveur’s Pasta $4.90
One of Saveur’s signature, for the price you paid, we don’t dare to be overly critical on the standard. The concocted minced pork sauce, Sakura Ebi was reasonably pleasant thought not speculative enough to blow your mind away.
Duck Leg Confit $10.90
Probably the cheapest Duck Leg Confit we have even eaten. Served with mashed potatoes and sautéed mushrooms, the crisp skin of duck confit unfortunately was not too distinct but fortunately the taste has made up some of the shortfalls. Again, for the price you paid, the duck confit may still be worth to try.
Duck Salad $5.90
Shredded duck, mesclun with lemon vinaigrette, quail egg, orange segments and cherry tomatoes. The fresh green and the shredded duck with the touch of dressing for a reasonable salad dish.
Mushrooms soup $5.90
Served in a small mug and tasted bland, the mushroom flavour was not distinct, we were puzzled with it comparative high price for the small cup of soup to other side dishes or even the main, not worth to go for and nothing to shout about.
Chicken Roulade $7.90
The buttery basmatic rice was reasonably tasty, the stuffed chicken just average and nothing too exciting.
Overall, Saveur is really a place for you to enjoy the expensive French Cuisine at the much affordable price. Of course, you can’t compare the quality with those high end French restaurants but Saveur should be well positioned to meet the mass market for its value for money French cuisine.
