Real Food Orchard Central 真食 – A new tweak in vegetarian food
Real Food Orchard Central believes in serving healthy and wholesome meat-free food, the cafe assures all the food served comes without artificial preservatives, flavouring, colouring or MSG, using only fresh organic ingredients to create dishes with both Asian and Western options with choices of vegan dishes available as well.
The ambience at Real Food Cafe can be segmented into two sections, there is a retail space at the front of the cafe, selling organic healthy foodstuff from fresh vegetables to sauces and snacks. The other section is divided by the long book shelves into casual dining area and sofa seats for a more comfortable, informal and relaxing dining environment.
Portobello Burger ($14.8)
Herb battered Portobello mushroom stacked with fresh greens and vegan mayonnaise, spicy and non-spicy version all burgers are served with 2 sides. Choices from Fried Onion rings with herbs and spices, potato salad with vegan mayonnaise and herbs, fried sweet potato wedges.
My daughter is a fan of this signature dish here and almost the standard order for her in every visit here. Be it the nice lightly crisp bread or the well-executed herb battered Portobello mushroom with the vegan mayonnaise or the lovely sides (Yes! We love the fried onion rings and sweet potato wedges) to go with the main, it is a dish well-received by all of us and a highly recommend item to try on the menu. (4.4/5.0)
Organic Belachan Fried Rice ($10.8)
Housemade Belachan made from naturally-dried and fermented organic soy, stir-fried with brown rice, carrots, shimeji mushroom, purple cabbage and corn kernels. You might be sceptical how a shrimp-missing Belachan can do the wonder to create the needed flavour for the sumptuous fried rice, however, we cannot deny Real Food somehow able to deliver the Belachan Fried Rice in an impressive manner, perhaps the fermented soy just did its job diligently but it is definitely a thumb up from us. (4.2/5.0)
Organic Mushroom Aglio Olio ($10.8)
Pasta tossed with fresh garlic, oregano, parsley and sautéed mushroom.
It has the aroma from the herbs added but nothing too special that can help to impress the taste buds. (3.0/5.0)
Sonnentor Flower Herbal Tea ($7.5)
Consists of 8 flowers in a glass pot, the aromatic of the flowers was soothing, lets don’t dwell too much of the health benefits of the tea, what else can be more enjoyable sipping a cup of the flower tea on the comfort of the sofa with companion of friends or families, or simply indulging reading a novel in a quiet corner of the cafe?
Citrus Cake ($9.0)
We expect a moist, soft and fluffy cake but the slice of citrus cake turned out to be a heavy, dense chewy “Huat Kueh”, citrus flavour was not too overwhelming but the texture of the “cake” can be acquiring for some. Like it or hate can be quite subjective for this piece of contentious “cake”. (2.5/5.0)
7% GST and 10% Service Charge applicable
You might not be a fan of vegan or non-meat diets, however, Real Food’s ways of presenting the dishes are unique, its abilities to differentiate from the mass and churn out sumptuous and healthy vegetarian food are truly commendable. We will certainly be back and will not hesitate to recommend for anyone to make a trip there.
