Portico Prime @ Dempsey Hill – CLOSED

portico prime 1

Where to find food in the early Sunday morning to celebrate Father’s Day? My two quick-witted kids JiaQi and Yusen spared no time in suggesting Portico Prime at Dempsey which serves Brunch as early as 9am. So, here we go.

The café is Portico’s second outlet, finding its way to the famous food belt together with other popular cafes and restaurants in Dempsey Hill. Portico occupies an old army barracks nestled in a rustic and idyllic corner surrounded by greenery. The setting retains much of the legacy facade imbued with an old-world colonial charm through the brick walls and columns. High ceiling and outdoor seating options provide plenty of space with a close touch to nature.

Portico Prime English Breakfast Special ($26)

Grilled pork sausage, eggs sunny side up, sautéed portobello mushrooms, bacon, baked beans, pan-fried cherry tomatoes and hash brown. A heavy weight brunch plate was ordered by my son and his large capacity stomach. Everything was fine except the deep fried bacon; the sodium was so much that it felt no different from eating spoonfuls of salt, and it smelled of rancid oil which further upset our mood. We had to make a complaint to the kitchen.

Pancake Savoury ($16)

The wheat pancake was topped with avocado, scrambled eggs and salad. The wheat pancake could be fluffier and and more fragrant, it had to rely on the maple syrup to lift up the overall taste.

Omelette ($20)

Scrambled eggs, garlic toast, truffle portobello mushroom and mesclun salad, seriously, what could go wrong?

Smoked Salmon Gravlax Scrambled Eggs ($20)

Salmon, scrambled eggs and salad, a fairly standard breakfast dish.

Portico Prime Verdict :

Food might not be the primary goal when dining at Portico Prime. What we enjoyed most was a great moment of tranquil ambience. Food is generally acceptable (except the rancid bacon!)

TK and the family loves to eat and believe good food should be shared, together with his daughter's QiQi, both are the main content writers and photographers for the food niche sites. Of course, the important supports from the wife's Ping and the son's Sen got to be mentioned as well, as it is our passion about food and an important catalyst that bond us together as a family.
