Old Street Bak Kut Teh @ Westgate èè¡èéª¨è¶ â Fulfilling meal
A new player and joined the Bak Kut Teh bandwagon in 2010, Old street Bak Kut Teh has tried to differentiate from others, besides the peppery herb soupy version, it has created dark sauce dried version as well. Can the new hound takes on the old guard?
We opted for thee set menu which consists of Peppery herbal pork ribs soup Bak Kut Teh, You Tiao, Braised bean curd strips,Â bean curd and rice.
Pork Rib Soup Bak Kut Teh $7.80 / $10.40
We could fully appreciate the aromatic of the peppery flavour herbal soup. The pork ribs were tender and well balance of pepper and herb. We actually requested several times of refilling the broth in order to fulfill our appetite on the soup.
You Tiao or fried dough stick $2.00
This was so far the best you Tiao we have tried amongst all the best bak Kut Teh outlets. Crisp outside and tender internally with nice dough flavour. Dip into the piping hot peppery broth, it was heavenly delicious. A must order side order.
Dark sauce dry version Bak Kut Teh $9.10 / $11.70
The piping hot claypot dry Bak Kut Teh was cooked with lady finger, ginger, dried cuttlefish and special dark sauce. The bak Kut was a bit tough but seasoning was quite good.
Braised Beancurd Strips (Tau Kee) $5.20
Strips of Beancurd was cooked to attain a soft texture allowing the easy absorption of the seasoning. A nice side order to go with the main.
Beancurd (Tau Hua) $2.30
Not really that impressive, just an ordinary bowl of Tau Hua.
Our verdict, there was no oolong Chinese tea to go along with the fat-laden Bak Kut Teh, however, it was still much a fulfilling meal of the day. Go for the set menu for best economic deal of $11 and $15, the difference is the choice of normal Bak Kut Teh or Premium Loin Ribs.
