Old Bibik’s rending – best beef rendang in town?
The stall specializes in the traditional peranakan cooking and famous for its beef rendang. Besides the beef rendang, the Ala carte menu consists of Chicken rendang, mutton rending with stir fried long beans and sayur lodeh (Mixed curry vegetables)
We ordered the chicken and beef rendang combo set which is one of their most popular dishes by demand of the stall. We were there around 11am and our additional side order of stir fried long bean was not ready, the friendly lady told us the vegetable has not delivered to the stall yet and unable serve the dish, too bad we got to give it a miss and left with the combo set for review.
The combo set served with white rice, fried egg, belacan, cucumbers and papadum (the traditional thin, crisp disc-shaped food made from flours and popular amongst the Indian to serve with nasi briyani). We were truly impressed with the beef rendang which was silky soft in the texture and the flavour was greatly enhanced by the salivating seasoning and hours of stewing work in the kitchen. The chicken rendang was not too far behind the race with its tendering meat and drenched by the mouth-watering gravy. Achar was marinated to the perfect medley of sourness and sweetness and retain the crunchiness of the vegetable, a great and perfect appetizer to go with the combo set. Don’t miss out to try the balacan chili as well, the balacan chili was fiercely hot but you can have an opportunity to taste the power of the real peranakan chili.
Overall, Old Bibik’s Rendang is well deserved to be voted as one of the best rendang in town. If you are looking for some real good rendang, try it out at Old Bibik.
Unfortunately, when we were there in Nov 13, the stall was looking for a new location to start the business again. Not sure where they will be moving to but we just hope Old Bibik’s rendang can continue to deliver the salivating food soon.
