Honestly, our original plan was to patronize the South Buona Vista Road Famous Teochew Boneless Duck Rice, but feel compelling to try the prawn mee from Middle Road Pork Ribs Prawn Mee as well since this is another popular stall in the same coffeeshop.

My son loves only the dry version but surprisingly the stall only offers the soupy version and left us with no choice but go with the soup prawn mee.

The bowl of prawn mee was a distinct difference from the traditional prawn mee, the focus relegated the prawns to a secondary role,  the prawns or perhaps more appropriate to call it small shrimp were cooked with peeled shell, good for the diners but the shrimps were much lacked of the sweetness and springy texture owning partly to the size and way how it was prepared. The real McCoy was the pork ribs which took the centre stage, however, it was not fantastically tender or savoury enough to galvanize us into action of diving into dish.

The soup was lackluster and definitely not the usual prawn soup that inundated with the piquant seafood flavour. It was much milder but saturated with a different kind of flavour more towards the pork rib soup we used to cook at home. Taste was indeed not bad and reminded us the nostalgia taste for the old good days of the prawn mee soup.

Our Verdict:

Middle Road Pork Ribs Prawn Mee is a different type of prawn noodles presented with a strong old time sentiment, nothing too fanciful and adhering to the rules of tradition makes it a good choice for those who enjoy the evoke of 60′ prawn mee.
