Macpherson Minced Pork Noodle @ Serangoon – hype of the noodle King?
The stall used to operate in Tai Thong Crescent near MacPherson Road before relocated to its current place in the Kim San Leng coffee shop, sharing the same premises with the popular Tian Wai Tian Fish Head Steamboat.
The stall is helmed by Mr Yap and his assistant, selling Fishball noodle($4.0), Minced meat noodle ($4.5), Minced meat dish and noodle (Xian Wan Main)($7.0), Pig trotter noodle($6.0).
We were there in a weekend morning and fortunately there were no crowd in the coffeeshop except Jack Neo and his family was eating the noodles next to us, looks like Macpherson Minced Pork Noodle has its celebrity’s fans.
Minced meat dish and noodle (Xian Wan Mian)($7.0)
It is more pricey for the Xian Wan Mian and our expectation was high, the bowl of soup came with pig liver, minced meat, sliced pork, egg and fish cake, cooked in a cloudy white broth, the broth tasted natural brewed without sensing too much of artificial enhancement. Ingredients were nicely cooked except the pig liver that could be slightly overdone with its hard texture.
The bowl of al dentle mee kia and mee pok came with braised mushroom, copious of pork lard and the base chili sauce, somehow, we could not fully appreciate the wonder of the sauce, the chilli sauce has mild spiciness and a little overwhelmed with a tanginess from the vinegar, that’s it! We somehow find the sauce lacking the right flavour and could be a little featureless for a truly succulent bowl of noodle. It is a bowl of noodle that could fall into the grey area, like it? No? Yes??? (3.0/5.0)
Fishball Noodle ($4.0)
Perfect noodle submerged in a bowl of broth infused with natural sweetness, springy and tasty fishball helped to keep one’s tastebuds happy. (3.5/5.0)
Fish Cake ($2.5)
The fried fish cake has a firm but springy texture, exterior surface was perfectly fried with a nice thin and light brown soft texture, at least not the rubbery type that can be stressful to the jaws muscles. However, it could be improved to squeeze in more flavour for an optimal taste. (3.0/5.0)
MacPherson Minced Meat Noodles may be the go to place among the many diehard fans and we acknowledged their love for the bowl of noodle, however, we may not share the same sentiment with the missing wow factor especially with the sauce.
