Lor Duck @ Simei EastPoint Mall乐峰卤鸭 – the return of the quacking
Lor Duck @ Eastpoint mall can be seen as the successor of the Redhill Lor Duck Rice and Noodle – a popular stall for its signature duck rice and noodle operated from the Redhill Food Centre, the stall shut it door in 2017 with no successor to continue the legendary and citing health and aged reasons by the owner.
Foodies should be glad to see the resurrection of Lor Duck, the quacking is now back not at the food centre but in a shopping mall in a full-fledged restaurant setup.
Lor Duck at Eastpoint mall offers an extensive menu, besides the signature duck rice and noodles, the kitchen has included series of new dishes eg, kway chap, traditional Chinese dishes, fried rice and noodles etc.
Signature Braised Duck + choice of 2 braised side dish ($10/15/28/52) serves 1 to 6 pax
You can’t miss out the signature braised duck at Lor Duck, the braised duck was done in the traditional Teochew style with high quality dark sauce and spices, the result was a flavour-infused and tender duck meat, the sauce was done perfectly, the sauce has pleasant taste and not overly salty or overwhelming with spices.
The selection of the duck was excellent, we loved duck without the thick layer of fat underneath the skin and Lor Duck delivered exactly what we expect. (4.2/5.0)
The yam rice ($1.50) was steamed and a little dehydrated, the rice grains were toward the dry side, however, the yam cubes were really good, it was soft and full of yam flavour, perfect to go with the duck.
We picked the pork belly and braised eggs for the mixed platter, pork belly could be more tender but the braised egg was flavourful and good.
3 Colour Eggs Chives ($10.0)
Generous portion of the young Chinese spinach cooked with century egg, salted egg and the chicken egg, the vegetable was fresh and cooked to perfection, combined with the eggs and on the spot seasoning, a dish that deserved a thumb up. (3.5/5.0)
Braised Tofu with Golden Mushroom Sauce ($10.0)
The Tofu was coated with egg and deep fried before simmer another in a flavourful sauce with golden mushroom; the delectable tofu was saturated with eggy flavour exteriorly with a silky internal, another succulent dish we loved here. (4.0/5.0)
Lor Duck at Eastpoint mall is definitely returned with a better standard, be it the signature braised duck or the cooked dishes we have tried, none was disappointing, however, the food may please our tastebuds but what really touches our hearts is to see the continuation of our hawker food legacy, it is a piece of precious art that should be preserved for our future generations.
