Lola’s Cafe – popular café in Hougang

Lola’s cafe @ Hongang

Since our last visit years ago, Lola’s Cafe has expanded and taken over the adjacent shop, the business seems to be doing well. Original café has limited indoor sitting capacity indoor with few more tables right outside for alfresco dining, the expansion certainly helped to reduce the long waiting time.

Lola’s café

Lola’s Cafe go for simple and down to earth design and don’t have memorable interior deco to catch your attention, the cafe seems to focus on the food and the pricing to attract the customers.

TRUFFLE FRIES $10.0

TRUFFLE FRIES $10.0

Potato Fries, Truffle Oil, Grated Parmesan

Not the best but the popular Truffle fries was good enough to meet most of the tastebuds’ expectation, the quality of the potatoes strips could be more refine but fortunately the plume of truffle oil helped to keep the snack a welcoming starter. (3.0/5.0)

Battered Chicken Wing, Paprika & Honey

Whenever someone mentioned about Lola Cafe, Honey paprika crispy wings tend to dominant the headlines and in a positive way of course, could it be one of the key draws for the long queue at this cafe? Undeniably, the honey paparika wings were nice with crispy exteriorly and juicy meat, honey coating gave the wings an extra sweetness to enliven the tastebuds. A good snack to kick start of the meal. PULLED PORK & AVOCADO EGGS BENEDICT $16.0

PULLED PORK & AVOCADO EGGS BENEDICT $16.0

6-hr Smoked Chipotle Pulled Pork, Smashed Avocado, Poached Egg, Light Sourdough, Hollandaise Sauce

Lola’s rendition of pulled pork paired with Hollandaise sauce was a good try, however, the pulled pork could be more fragrant to give the flavour a little more boost else it was just another run-of-the-mill pulled pork in our opinion. (3.0/5.0)

MISO SALMON GRAIN BOWL $18.0

MISO SALMON GRAIN BOWL $18.0

Quinoa, Miso Salmon, Charred Baby Corn, Avocado, 63°C Egg, Spring Onion, Furikake, Roasted Sesame Dressing

Miso Salmon was juicy and tender, not overly fishy that could dampen the appetite, the rest of the items in the bowl were very much followed the standard protocol and hardly can go wrong. (3.0/5.0)

ULTIMATE CROISSANT $15.0

ULTIMATE CROISSANT $15.0

Butter Croissant, Honey Baked Ham, Honey Mayo, Cheddar Cheese, Cajun Scrambled Egg

Croissant was flaky with buttery taste, served together with ham, eggs and cheese to make up this western breakfast set. Honestly, we have nothing to shout about or like to be too critical of the food, it served the purpose of a butter croissant meal and that’s all about it. (3.0/5.0)

ANGUS BEEF BURGER $18.0

ANGUS BEEF BURGER $18.0

Brioche Bun, Angus Beef Patty, Tomato, Caramelized Onion, Cheddar, Garlic Aioli, Sunny-Side Egg, Potato Fries

Classic Angus beef patty sandwiched between the brioche bun, shall we classify it under another run-of-the-mill Angus beef burger? Frankly, the beef patty was acceptable but a more profoundly beefiness taste would be preferred to elevate the flavour further.  (3.0/5.0)

LEMON MERINGUE TART $5.6

LEMON MERINGUE TART $5.6

Fresh Lemon Curd, Toasted Meringue & Candied Lemon Zest

Good Lemon meringue tart should made of a fragrant and firm shortcrust pastry, fluffy meringue topping with a well-balanced lemon custard sourness, we are pleased to find all the good stuff in this tart. (4.0/5.0)

Our verdict

Lola’s Cafe will continue its charm in luring the customers with its reasonably food quality and price, snacks like the honey chicken wings and pastries like tarts seems to outshine the main course in terms of flavour and taste, so you know what not to be missed in your next visit.
