About ten helpers were seen moving swiftly around the customers, serving the perpetual streaming in of customers and showcasing the artfully crafted mee pok. The wait to appreciate the art piece wasn’t too long after all, the portion of the mee pok was generous, and toppings were relatively standard with fish balls, slices of fish cake, mushroom, minced meat and vegetable. The fish balls were tasty but softer than most of the fish balls we used to eat from other mee pok stalls. Let’s be clear, though bouncy fish balls have its fan of lovers, soft fish balls have its own unique character and provide you a different perspective of the chewiness to the taste buds.

For the mee pok, two important aspects of the dish will determine the good or bad of the noodles. In our opinion, it is the texture of the noodle and the mixed sauce that goes with the mee pok. From our past experience in our food trail on fish ball noodles, it was not easy to find a noodle that was able to garner our support. Especially the noodle’s texture, since most of the noodles we tasted were either too soggy or too raw. It is the rare few that is able to maintain the consistency of the texture as it relies heavily on the culinary skills of the chef.

The bowl of  the Lau Lim mee pok was quite impressive; especially the texture, each strain of the mee pok in the bowl was glistened with a thin layer of lard and not truss in bundle.

Besides the mee pok, we can’t ignore the importance of how the mixed sauce goes with the noodles, just like for a good movie it takes a good director and a good story to make it work. The mixed sauce here was able to blend very well with the mee pok and able to draw out the essence of a truly nice mee pok.

Overall, Lau Lim mee pok lives up to our expectation and we truly appreciate the piece of beautiful “Art” presented.
