Hup Lee Nasi Lemak 合利椰浆饭
A plate of Nasi Lemak with Sausage, egg, choice of fish cake or luncheon meat and otah or vegetable, Four dishes for a price tag of $2 dollars ! Where on earth in Singapore to find such cheap Nasi Lemak? Look around us, a banana leaf wrapped Nasi Lemak selling over the counter can cost easily $1.20 or more with just few miserable peanut, a small kuning fish and chili. And right here in Marine Parade hawker and food centre, you can buy the reasonably nice Nasi Lemak at only $2. Great news when the inflation is hurting our wallet.
We were a bit skeptical at the beginning about the standard of the food but decided to give it a try, our confidence got the boost when we saw the stall has awarded some recommendations from the media as well. However, we didn’t go for the standard $2 menu but ordered A-la-carte instead, for a simple reason, sausage, otah and luncheon meat etc are simply off the shelf items and not much you can really judge the standard.
Let’s be objective about Hup Lee Nasi Lemak, though their price is relatively cheap, they have not compromised anything in the quality of the food. We opted for the fish cake, two types of vegetable and chicken wing, those dishes will need the right culinary skills to bring up the flavor and taste. Hup Lee never disappoints us, both the long bean and cabbage was fresh and cooked to the perfection, the chicken wing was fried to the right crispiness and palatable. It is a surprise of the kind of quality food going at this price. One of the minus points we can pick up from Hup Lee was the rice, if Hup Lee can enhance the rice to make it more fragrance with the coconut milk and pandan leave, that will help to score even better of their Nasi Lemak.
Hup Lee Nasi Lemak truly lives up to be Cheap and Good.
