Hoe Kee Wanton Noodle
There are some good stalls at Aljunied food centre, eg. Ng Soon Kee Duck rice and porridge and the famous fried Hokkien Mee. Hoe Kee Wanton Noodle is another one of them here, voted to be one of the best wanton mee and received fair bit of accolades by some of the local medias, so we decided to check it out.
Wanton mee 3.0 and the dumpling soup 3.5
Hoe Kee wanton Noodle was generous with their servings, the noodles came at a good serving size and topped with the char siew and vegetable.
The base sauce is the soul of the wanton mee and perhaps this is where Hoe Kee wanton Noodle scored well given by the patrons. The sauce has enlivened the overall taste of the noodle and that’s how it won over the hearts of the customers. Unfortunately the mee kia or the noodle is a tad too soft, missing the smooth and “QQ” texture. It could be due to the supplier or cooking technique but the noodle pulled down the overall standard of the wanton mee considerably.
The dumpling was nicely prepared with well seasoned meat and bits of water chestnut to provide some crunchiness to the bite.
In general, Hoe Kee Wanton Noodle is good at its seasoning sauce but the noodle texture is something missing the mark. Perhaps Hoe Kee should seriously consider how to improve the quality of the noodles, which can truly complement well the sauce.
