Lasting two generations and over 60 years, Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle has received many favourable accolades and the award of a Michelin star undoubtedly takes the fame of the stall to the pinnacle.

Before the popular stall was crowned with the Michelin star, there are already few stalls trying to imitate Tai Hwa Pork Noodle, however, this is the real deal so do not be confused with the rest.

The mee pok was served in a big bowl, bigger than ordinary bowls at almost double the size. There was plenty of ingredients in the bowl; pig liver, pork belly slices, pork minced meat, pork balls, sole fish, dumpling, and seaweed. All ingredients were as fresh as it can be, with the liver and pork slices etc. cooked to the right texture. Nothing can be faulted indeed.

The seasoning was fairly balanced – the slight vinegar taste blended well with the chilli sauce, and the added lard oil takes the flavour to a higher level. There is a small snag with the chili sauce, which is that it was kind of ordinary and was not able to heighten the overall satisfaction.

The kway teow soup was packed with the same ingredients as the mee pok; the rich and potent broth was infused with the essence of goodness from those ingredients added and meticulously prepared broth.

Our verdict

The Michelin star awarded to Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle signifies the endorsement of well-deserved hawker food for its impeccable quality. The 1.5 hours queue was a tad too excessive. so perhaps you should wait for the heat to cool down before the visit.
