Goose Rice? That’s what indicated on the signboard but in reality, the waterfowl specie that are intermediate between the swans and ducks have vanished from the local scene long time ago. Seriously, how many even have a bite of the goose meat? Why so? Well, besides the high cost, Goose meat is not as tender as Duck meat is another obvious reasons of the fading like of the birds.

Without the goose, it left with the duck dominating at the stall, however, it has not dampened the queue waited patiently for the duck rice and the popularity of the stall is fairly conclusive. For duck rice lover, Heng Gi Goose and Duck Rice is one of the rave about stalls you will never want to miss, the stall has been around for the past few decades and the charm to tempt the young and old to patronize the stall continue to be evident.

Gravy: Not the starchy texture but watery type, the gravy more towards the saltier end, however, it tasted “salty-ly” fragrance.

Duck: Meat was tender but coarse texture, the duck absorbed the essence from the gravy and with satisfying taste and flavour.

Rice:  Only white rice is available, a little hard and this could be the grade of rice grain used.

Soup: mild herbal flavor mixed with duck flavor from the discernible layer of oil likely came from the simmering of the duck in the soup.

Chili: Not spicy and missing the diced garlic flavor, too ordinary and don’t leave you with any impression.

Our verdict:

After eating so many duck rice around the isle, Heng Gi Goose and Duck Rice has not created a unique character for themselves if compared with the rest of the duck rice. However, it is still fairly a decent duck rice that worth to sink your teeth into it. As for the Goose rice….it can only be found in the history.
