I probably had my first taste of Hokkien Mee from this stall, and I haven’t stopped going back since I was about 7 years old. I would always pester my parents to bring me here whenever I had a craving for Hokkien Mee, simply because this stall has one of the best Hokkien Mee I have ever tasted. (Even up till this very day!) This stall is owned by this old lady in her 70s-80s currently. While she used to singlehandedly whip up every plate of Hokkien Mee that went out of her stall, she might be a little too old for that now so she takes orders instead while a helper cooks. Got me wondering if the taste of the old lady is still there!

When the plate of Hokkien Mee arrived, the aroma immediately brought back many memories; it still smells as good as last time. As you can see from the pictures, the Hokkien Mee is of the right moisture, not too dry or too soggy like that of Tian Tian Lai Hokkien Mee. For a mere $3, this is a rather huge portion of Hokkien Mee, with generous servings of eggs, prawns and sotong. Do note that this is a healthier version of the normal Hokkien Mee as there isn’t any pork lard used. Don’t worry though, taste is not compromised!

The Hokkien Mee was sweet and rather tasty, having the mee soak up much of the seafood stock used. That said, the taste of the current Hokkien Mee cannot be compared to the ones produced by the old lady herself last time. It was also slightly lacking when it came to the smell of the wok, for it wasn’t as prominent as last time. The chilli tastes absolutely amazing; it was spicy with a slight pinch of saltiness and tanginess, creating a perfect blend with the mee. (so if you’re a chilli lover, do ask for more!)

This stall has been operating for close to 20 years already, and throughout these 20 years, what with the inflation and all, they still managed to keep the price of the Hokkien Mee at the same price; kudos to them! It’s especially hard to get a good plate of Hokkien Mee nowadays, so even with the flaws that this stall has; it is still my number one favourite! While I used to have to queue up for this, with the construction of a new car park; business at the food centre has been affected. Do use this chance to try out the Hokkien Mee and support the old lady! Though we know there are better Hokkien mee available somewhere else.
