As true foodies, our duty to hunt down equally delicious versions have not halted even after publishing our top choices for best fried carrot cake earlier. We believe that there are always hidden gems yet to be discovered! We ordered the black version, though we usually prefer the white one – but knowing how Fu Meng is raved about for its black version of fried carrot cake, we couldn’t miss giving it a try. Unfortunately, we reached our capacity after tasting the black version. If we had extra capacity – no doubt we would have gone for both versions.

The fried carrot cake was soft and cut into small chunks which allowed better permeation of the seasoning to fully flavour every morsel of the carrot cake; the delightful pairing of black sauce and sweet sauce with the carrot cake and together with the eggs was enticing to the taste buds. We especially like the slight charred flavour and the caramelized radish cake, the sheer robustness of the wok aroma and generous eggs made the plate a sumptuous dish that you should not miss when visit the food centre.
