FOOD REVIEW: Fat Cat Ice Cream Bar @ Bedok
The signature charcoal black waffle ($6.00) is almost synonymous with Fat Cat Ice Cream Bar. It has become one of the most sought after desserts in this cafe, but we’re curious what else on the menu garners attention.
The waffle’s texture was crispy but not fluffy. Its taste was bland and it had to rely on the ice cream toppings and the sauces (choice of caramel or salted egg yolk) to lift up the overall flavour. If it weren’t for the toppings, eating the waffle alone would have proved monotonous.
However! As what Jia Qi said: “I am here not for the charcoal waffle but for the ice cream.”
We think what Fat Cat Ice Cream Bar does really well is not the charcoal waffle but their ice creams. The Pistachios ($4.50) and Thai Milk Tea ice cream ($4.50) were smooth and fine with hints of natural goodness and flavour. It is not sugary sweet either. The salted egg yolk sauce ($1) was not too impressive compared to the ice cream, you can give it a miss without regret.
Fat Cat Ice Cream Bar Verdict :
The ice cream is quite well done here and it complements the waffle well for a good dessert. Many like to douse their waffle with the additional salted egg yolk sauce but seriously it is really not necessary and in fact tainted the nice flavour of the ice cream.
