You food needs to have the substance for qualifying the use of the word “Famous” on the signboard. The Famous Sungei road Trishaw Laksa seems to exert a pull on quite a lot of royal patrons judging from the number of the branches sprouting out in many of the food centres around the isle, though not sure if they are all related or simply the copycat. In the early day, Sungei road used to have the Trishaw men selling Laksa in their mobile trishaw, the laksa is so good and over the years, it found a root in our food centres and allowing the next generation continues to enjoy the good taste in our food heritage.

We tried many of the famour laksa before, from 328 Katong Laksa, Depot Road Zhen Shan Mei Claypot Laksa, Amy Laksa, Hill Street coffee shop Laksa and many more. So, what is the difference of this Famous Sungei road Trishaw Laksa compare to others?

The bowl of Laksa cost $2.50 which is quite reasonable and with a reasonable serving as well, the standard topping items from the Laksa can be found here as well, fish cake, ground laksa leaves, sambal chill, half boiled egg and bean sprouts. Gravy appeared in light yellow and more diluted compared to 328 Katong Laksa or Deport Road Laksa, the taste of gravy was flavourful with the mild spiciness and closer assembles to the Amy Laksa from Bedok. The coconut flavour was more noticeable, dried shrimp may be inadequate and unable to bring up the laksa pungency from the seafood flavour.

Overall, if you love rich and strong pungent laksa, go for Depot road Zhen Shan Mei Claypot Laksa, if this is something too heavy for the stomach, 328 katong Laksa could be a good choice. Otherwise, Amy Laksa and Famous Sungei Road Trishaw Laksa will be the right pick; you can slurp up a big bowl and both will not give you the cloying feel.

The most famous laska isn’t this stall. They aren’t the original sungei road laska.

  • Avatar TK says:

Agree! We think it has room to improve. Will try the original one soon.

Is it the origin Laksa located at Jalan Berseh Block 27??

The blog for the Laksa recently sending and tot of going to try on it, but very disappointed this blog is not accurate that the hawker centre is under renovation and reopen on 30 November 2016.
Duty of the blogger to give correct and updated information.

Seriously, it is hard to verify the statement if this is the original stall, some said this is first one to introduce eating laksa with spoon but others mentioned it is the Katong laksa. so???
