Daun Pandan Rice Dumpling Bak Chang
You can easily find Daun Pandan rice dumpling bak chang in many parts of Singapore from small kiosk in the shopping malls to the supermarkets, so, does it meant the popularity of this bak chang signifies Daun Pandan Rice Dumpling superior in the taste?
Nonya Dumplings $3.0
Not stingy to pack the rice dumpling with generous filling, at least you don’t pay to eat only the glutinous rice, however, the seasoning could have more depth to perk up the flavour.
Hokkien Dumplings $3.00
While the Nonya bak chang was stuffed with filling, the Hokkien bak chang went in the opposite, there was only a small piece of meat, a slice of mushroom and one small chestnut, the whole rice dumpling was practically packed with just rice. Unfortunately, the rice was slightly overcooked and overall we can’t appreciate at all.
Black pepper Chicken Dumplings $3.2
The filling was similar to the Hokkien bak chang except the extra flavour accentuated by the black pepper found in the filling. This is their signature offer but we think still lacking the wow effects.
Teochew Rice Dumplings $3.7
Besides chunks of meat, the filling comes with lotus seeds, mushroom, chestnut and the unique sweet green bean paste, a typical mix of sweetness and saltiness in the Teochew rice dumplings. Somehow, we though yum paste (orh nee) could be harmonized better than the sweet green bean in our opinion. Similar to the rest of Lan Ye Xian bak chang, the seasoning of filling could do a bit more depth.
Nonya Vegetarian Rice Dumplings $2.00
The size is much smaller compared to those non-vegetarian bak chang, fillings is a mixture of mushroom, nuts and veggies etc. The flavour may not as delectable as the Nonya bak chang with the missing porky taste but overall was acceptable for a vegetarian rice dumpling.
Vegetarian Rice Dumplings $2.00
Filling made up mainly the peanut and mushroom, the look is unassuming and mediocre, you can’t really expect too much especially to those not accustomed to this simple vegetarian recipe, though it may not be too refine but still a comforting experience.
Daun Pandan Rice Dumpling Bak Chang Our verdict:
Daun Pandan rice dumpling bak chang will not blow you away with its run of the mill standard in their quality and flavour. If you are not nitpicking about taste, Daun Pandan rice dumpling could still be a fair choice.
