Creamier Handcrafted Ice Cream and Coffee
Review written by Glutton Princess – QiQi
Located in one of the oldest heartland estates in Singapore, it was a pleasant surprise to find an air conditioned café with real cosy lighting with simple yet cute furnishing. The chairs were like small little ice creams on sticks, and there were paintings plastered on the walls to make the plain walls livelier. Since it was a Saturday, it opens only at 12pm but we reached at about 11.50am. Decided to wait outside on the benches that they had even though it was raining and we were pretty much half drenched. (they could have let us in earlier since they barely did anything during the last 10 min, but they didn’t! ): )
By the time 12pm came, we were not the only ones waiting for the doors to open! Luckily with our nimble feet and hands, we made it to the first in queue. There were quite a huge variety of ice cream flavours that were rather unique, so we were all spoilt for choices! (we took quite a while to come to our decision, but we’re really thankful for the patient lady serving us at the counter!) At the very end, we decided to go for the waffle set with Sea Salt Gula Melaka, Roasted Pistachio, and Thai Milk Tea, followed by a double scoop of Earl Grey Lavender and Banana Chocolate Chip Crumble.
The waffle wasn’t exactly very fantastic (but it wasn’t bad either), we were lucky there were the amazing ice creams to save the day! Or maybe it is the owners’ idea to not let the waffle outshine the ice cream? The waffle was a little hard to cut through, and not as fragrant as the one that we recently had at Wimbly Lu Chocolate Café. It was more on the salty side than on the sweet side, depending on your personal preference, you might like this one!
Sea Salt Gula Melaka
This is the first time I came across such an ice cream flavour! Ordered this because we felt adventurous and did not want to order something conventional. So glad we did. This ice cream flavour blended exceptionally well with the waffle. If you’re having the waffle, this is a must order flavour! It was the first to be wiped out amongst all three flavours. The ice cream was exceptionally fragrant with a perfect balance between sweet and salty, we all couldn’t get enough of it!
This flavour didn’t exactly excite our palates, or maybe it was just a personal thing. It came with some bits and pieces of pistachio to give it some texture and add that extra crunch. The roasted pistachio was rich, but maybe a little too rich to our liking. It didn’t taste bad, but there was no wow factor in this ice cream. Doesn’t leave you wanting for more!
Thai Milk Tea
We had to order this flavour after our recent trip to Marble Slab Creamery, who also had this flavour in their outlets. The flavour is said to be made with a premium Ceylon tea brew. (it sure tasted like it!) This version of the Thai Milk Tea was slightly lighter than the one at Marble Slab Creamery. There was a slight debate on this one, for my mum and I preferred the one at Marble Slab Creamery while my brother and father preferred the one over here. Why not you give both a try and tell us what you think?
Earl Grey Lavender
If you’re a big fan of the Green Tea Macchiato from Koi, you’ll be sure to fall in love with this ice cream, because they both taste pretty similar! It was creamy and milky, just the way I like my ice cream to be. And yet even so, you wouldn’t get sick of it even after 10 mouthfuls. Sadly I was the only one that thought this flavour was amazing! Parents and brother thought it was just ok.
Banana Chocolate Chip Crumble
If this ice cream flavour could have a personality, it would be ‘fun’. The combination of fresh bananas with chocolate chip and cookie crumbles created a playful flavour that makes it seem like you’re playing, but in your mouth! With a slight tinge of sourness from the bananas, mixed with the mildly sweet chocolate, I can’t see how anyone can not fall in love with such a perfect medley of flavours! Huge thumbs up from all of us.
Creamier Handcrafted Ice Cream and Coffee sure knows how to make their ice cream rich, smooth and a delight to eat! This is an absolutely lovely place to just sit back and chill on a busy day. That said, tables are a little small, and seats aren’t very comfy. (Oh and it is slightly pricey though) However, if you aren’t very particular about that, do come down to this place and give their ice cream a shot. They’ve got real soothing music playing on the stereo too!
