Canopy Garden Dining @ Bishan Park
After a four month revamp, Canopy Garden Dining has finally opened its doors to welcome diners with a newly styled contemporary dining setting. Wooden furniture and floorings are used to blend in with the setting of the park, and full glass panels allow for diners to enjoy the green surroundings and allow for soft natural sunlight even when dining indoors. (All the furniture in the Canopy are custom made and unique to the restaurant too!) There is also a green wall to keep diners cool for those who choose alfresco dining. (Canopy welcomes your pets too!)
We had the chance to have Chef Kameron Kurtz, Canopy’s General Manager and Directing Chef to explain to us the inspiration behind the dishes during the media tasting. For those who are unaware, Chef Kameron has won national awards for Best Buffalo Wings, Best Pizza and also Best Service for 3 consecutive years when he was a manager at Just Pizza. (We can attest to the good service part as Chef Kameron gave us a very warm welcome and ensured that we all felt at home!) His goal with Canopy is to create a long lasting icon of fresh food with local influences and healthy choices.
We had the chance to try a few of the dishes on the menu, and the pictures below represent the tasting portions and are not of the actual size.
Bishan Muesli ($13) – Brunch Menu
Given that Canopy Garden Dining is all about fresh flavours and produce, they produce their own muesli and pastries too. The Bishan Muesli is made up of homemade gluten free granola, topped with yoghurt, green apple and passion fruit. As you might have guessed, the entire dish is extremely sour – But Yes! Good for slimming down and I need it!
Potted Cheese ($8) – Tapas Menu
The crackers went very well with the whipped cheese that had a tinge of brandy for that extra kick.
Roast Beef Sandwich ($10.80) – Takeaway Menu
The sandwich is made with Beef, Brie cheese, Horseradish Mayo and Green Apple. Brie and mayo taste were not too distinct, the entire sandwich was light in seasoning in order to be a healthier choice. The green apple however did add a little extra crunch to the sandwich.
Prawn Avocado Sandwich ($10.80) – Takeaway Menu
Consisting of prawn, celery, spring onion and avocado spread; the sandwich was done with a light touch to retain the original taste of the ingredients and the freshness was guaranteed!
Smoked Duck Pizza ($16) – Dinner Menu
Made with smoked duck, dried fig, brie, confit red capsicum and arugula; the duck was savoury while the dried fig brought a tinge of sweetness to the pizza. Love it!
Lobster Pomodoro ($19) – Brunch and Dinner Menu
We absolutely love the perfectly cooked lobster chunks that were tender and juicy; we couldn’t get enough of how well the lobster went with the pomodoro sauce and the spaghetti. Definitely a must try!
Crab Aglio Olio ($19) – Brunch and Dinner Menu
It was understandable why this was one of the chef’s recommended dishes, the fresh herbs, coriander, spring onion and chilli coupled with the olive oil was the perfect combination with the shredded crab meats. Another definite must try!
Crunchy French Toast ($14) – Brunch Menu
The cinnamon French toast is coated in cereal and fried to give it the crunchy crust, topped with a tangy berry compote and ice cream to bring a sweet end to our meal!
On the whole, the dishes from Canopy Garden Dining emphasizes in providing healthy dining options to its patrons. If you love delicate and subtle flavours for health reasons, Canopy Garden Dining is definitely the right place to go.
The ones that really wowed us were the pasta: Lobster pomodoro and the Crab Aglio Olio.
