My glutton kids were craving for curry rice and we decided to visit popular curry rice and how we end up here. Beach Road Scissor Cut Curry Rice is raved for the succulent Hainanese curry rice in the early day and amongst one of the most famous one around for decades.

The stall is housed in a corner coffeeshop and the popularity of the food has since been gotten the public endorsement with the expansion into the adjacent shop house.

We ordered the dishes that cost $25.

The McCoy of good curry rice lies on the gravy and curry that slathered over the rice and complemented by the quality of the rice. Hmmm…..unfortunately the rice was a big disappointment, rice was lumpy and soggy and it failed miserably with the first mouthful. The curry was a tab of spicy and sweet, it was gooey but not as flavour to our liking.

Braised meat

Lacked of the tenderness of a good braised meat and lackluster in the flavour. The braised gravy was viscous and saturated with excessive starch.

Pork Chop

Suppose the most highly acclaim and signature dish was far falling short of our expectation. It was rather featureless and flavourless.

Equally disappointing, not just the unimpressed taste but we sense the missing heart and soul in the cooking.

Ikan Billis

Layer of thick saturated fat beneath the fried anchorage fish was discernible; the ikan billies was fried with chilli and it was a solace to our tastebuds finally able to taste something to our liking.

The veggies was soft and sweet but just like other dishes were poorly seasoned with a lack of appreciation in taste.

The curry gravy was mildly hot but again starchy. Ordinary and nothing to shout about.

Our verdict, Beach Road Scissor Cut Curry Rice may have evolved over the time but we are sceptical if the evolvement is heading the right direction. One thing for sure, it used to be quite good….years ago.

    How about the one at Lor 25A No 66 Geylang road? Is it ok?
