Ah Heng Curry Chicken Bee Hoon Mee – Salivating ! 亚王咖喱鸡米粉面
That orangey red gravy, glistening with promise of a rich and spicy experience was what drew us to this stall. What we got at Ah Heng Curry Chicken Bee Hoon mee managed to whet our appetite on sight, and did not disappoint. Ah Heng is one of two equally famous curry chicken noodle stalls located at Hong Lim Market and Food Centre, and are so popular that they have spawned imitators elsewhere. Both Ah Heng and its counterpart, Heng Kee Curry Chicken Bee Hoon Mee, boast their own queues of loyal supporters queuing for their fix during lunch time.
We requested for a mixture of thin mee hoon and yellow noodles, and it came with tau pok (deep fried dried bean curd), chunks of boneless chicken meat and potatoes. The noodle remained al dente while managing to soak up flavour from the gravy, with each mouthful a pleasing and savory bite. The gravy was not cloying and blended harmoniously with all the other ingredients.
Speaking of which, the toppings were equally impressive, with tender steamed chicken, perfect soft potatoes and flavourful tau pok – we enjoyed every bite.
So the perpetual long queue in front of Ah Heng Curry Chicken Mee Hoon Mee is definitely there for a reason – though we’ve heard that the quality can sometimes be a little erratic, it is still one of the best curry mee we have tried so far. Look out for our review on Heng Kee coming up next!
