123 Mee Rebus (NOTE! Ceased Operation)
The stall used to operate from the food court in Marine Parade Shopping Centre few years ago and finally settled down in the food court at Katong Shopping Centre. The stall sells various types of Malay food ranging from Soto Ayam, Vegetable curry, lontong, Mee Soto, Mee Siam and all time favorite Mee Rebus.
We ordered the most popular Mee Rebus and Mee Siam, each plate costs $3.90 and the portion is seriously generous, why did we say so? Imaging a big bowl of noodle filled with gravy all the way to the rim and topped with all the ingredients, we advise you to standby plenty of tissue paper when you transfer the plate of Mee Rebus or Mee Siam from the tray to the table! Both of your hands will likely be stained with the spilled gravy. This is the exact trademark of the 123 Mee Rebus – filling up everything to the brim!
Mee Rebus: Yellow noodle was completely submerged by the gravy, topped with plenty of green chili, lime, egg, celery, shallots and bean sprout. The gravy was tantalizing, full of flavour from the seasoning, combined with the tinge of the sweetness from the sweet potatoes paste; creating a plate of scrumptious noodle that was lip-smacking.
Mee Siam: The sourness from the assam (tamarind paste), spiciness from the chili, sweetness from the sugar, saltiness from the soy bean paste were all very well blended and balanced. The mee hoon fully absorbed the essence of the gravy and the additional of Chinese chives, tau kwa and lime combined made the plate of mee siam truly palatable to the taste buds. Do order a bowl of grass jelly from the stall as well, the grass jelly was very smooth and a good finishing touch to a satisfactory meal.
Overall, both the Mee Rebus and Mee Siam from 123 Mee Rebus is truly gorgeous in taste and definitely one of the better one we have tried so far.
